Dec 17th 10am v Crewe Shooters (King Georges 7)
U14's v Kidsgrove
Again, a good performance which the result belied. Main points to take forward:-
- Although much better today, we didn't clear the ball as quickly as we could have - this led directly to at least 3 goals.
- We must attack the ball more - too many players are still waiting for the ball to come to them rather than attacking the ball.
- Attackers must try to get into dangerous positions more often
Having said that, the defence played excellently and man of the match goes to Matt Phillips for a superb display at right back. Honourable mentions also to Simon Denney, Adam P and Conor.
Another week off next week, before a must win game v Crewe Shooters on the 17th.

Fixtures Sunday December 3rd
U13's - no game
U14's - Kidsgrove Athletic (away) 10am kick off
An early start for the U14's on Sunday - and, don't worry, they only beat Nantwich 8-1 in the Cup ;-)
To find Kidsgrove's ground, head towards Stoke on the A50, and take the turn off after the Talke junction. Follow the dual carriageway up, over the first roundabout and turn left at the second roundabout (past KFC). Follow this road along til you come to Heathside Lane on the left - turn up here and the pitch is on your left, about 500 yards up the road.

RCT U14 0-9 Cheshire Blades
A much improved (20 goals better!) performance today - the defence fought well through out the game, and the score would have been much closer had it not been for some truly appaling refereeing - restarting the game whilst a substitution was being made, allowing some awful challenges on our keeper, and not giving obvious free kicks throughout.
The new formation worked well and we will stick to this for forthcoming games.
Man of the Match - Simon Denney for some awesome goalkeeping - also well done to Mike Reece, and Simon Cliffe also did well - but everyone battled throughout and gave 110%.
We still need to clear the ball more quickly, and our midfield need to try and gain more possession, but overall a much improved performance

RCT U13 0-3 Gist U13
U13's were unlucky to lose to a Gist side who never looked like they were 5 places above us in the league!
Excellent performances from Luke W, Josh, Ed Sykes and Ed Holmes, but everyone had a good game. Try to push further forward when attacking - a number of times we played a long ball forward and there was no-one on the end of the ball.
Nantwich Town next week! Yay...;-)

U14 - results of research/homework!
We have now analysed everyone's comments - thanks for completing the sheets.
Areas we need to improve were categorised as follows, with the number of players mentioning them shown:
NO TACKLING 5 players
NOT CLEARING BALL 4 players
DON’T PASS EARLY ENOUGH 4 players
NEED TO SHOOT EARLIER 2 players
Generally, we need to clear the ball at the first opportunity, shoot earlier, get tougher in tackling and look for passes earlier rather than trying to beat the whole team.
Other comments included:
General comments:
SCARED OF OTHER TEAM
GIVE UP TOO EASILY
NO FIGHT
LET BALL BOUNCE
KICK OFFS TOO PREDICTABLE
LOOK TIRED
CONTROL BALL BETTER
WANDERING OUT OF POSITION
Defensive comments
GOALIE SHOULD CLEAR BALL QUICKER
MARKING AT CORNERS
MIDFIELD DON’T HELP DEFENCE OUT ENOUGH
Attacking comments
NEED BIGGER PLAYERS UP FRONT
Let's work on these areas on Sunday and look for improvement, especially in the top areas which were mentioned the most.

U14
After Sunday's 'game' we need to start again. For this reason we have asked all players to write down what worked and what didn;t on Sunday, and why you think the result went so badly against us. Also, we need to know what you feel is your best position so that we can settle on a definitive team and stick with it - I think we have been trying players in different positions each week and we need to decide on a formula and stick to it.
Following your comments on Friday we will put a team together - this team will stay together until at least Christmas, barring suspensions and injuries/unavailability.
You are not bad footballers. Other teams have been together for years and have played 3 or 4 times a week in school and other teams for years. We are, comparitively, a new team. Deciding on a settled line-up will help us improve. Some of you may not be placed in your first choice position, but if this happens this is for the good of the team.
Once we have decided on the team line up, we will speak to each of you individually and explain exactly what is required of you in your new position. Obviously, with 18 in our squad, some of you may 'share' a position, with the player who does best on Friday starting the game on Sunday. Mike has expressed a wish to play in defence, so Simon will be starting in goal from next week, with Mike deputising as and when necessary.
We play Cheshire Blades on Sunday, and Terriers again the week after. We need to show some pride next time we play Terriers - on Sunday too many players gave up before the game had even started.
See you on Friday

U13's were unlucky to lsoe against a Madeley team they had beaten earlier in the year. Rhys Potter scored (again!) and Josh played superbly in defence.

2 weeks off!
No games for either team now til Nov 5th - training will however continue as normal on Friday nights 7-8pm.
U13s defeated
I wasn't at the game, but the U13s were apparently unlucky to lose 1-4. Rhys Potter kept up his goalscoring record with another goal, his seventh in 5 games, so well done Rhys !
U14's damage limitation!
U14s were up against the 'giants' of the U14 league, WWS, a team bred on raw steak and egg nog, or seemingly so due to the size of them! We had lost our last meeting 0-18, and WWS beat Crewe Shooters by a similar margin last week, so the omens were bad.
However, 20 minutes in and the score 0-0, the teachings of new defensive coach Rob seemed to be working - WWS had 90% of the possession but were unabale to find a way through.
Inevitably, the goals came with the score 0-5 at half time, and 0-9 by the end. Everyone got a game, Mike Reece had to go off injured after head butting the floor in a desperate attempt to keep out the 9th goal. All in all, despite the result, another improved performance.
Learning points - please, please, PLEASE clear the ball at the first opportunity - at least 5 of their goals were caused in part by messing about with the ball in our own area. If the ball isn't near our goal, they can't score! Also, some of us need to get an early night on Saturday night if we are not to spend most of the game looking half asleep ;-)
Two weeks off now - next game is another potentially tricky encounter with Crewe Terriers on November 5th.

U13's unlucky
Tigers U13's were unlucky in defeat as they went down 1-3 to Gist in the U13 league.
Gist were 2-0 up at half time, and Tigers failed to claw back the deficit in the second half, despite a penalty from Jordan Batho, who was awarded man of the match.
Ex Tigers striker James Taylor sealed the win for Gist with a second half strike from the edge of the box and was always a threat to the Tigers defence.

U14's win !
Our 14's posted their first win of the season today with an excellent performance against Wistaston Wanderers. Tigers went a goal down in the first minute, as the ref allowed kick off despite one of our players being not ready to commence. The ball was played down the left wing, and the cross found an excellent touch from Blakemore who slotted the ball home.
Tigers battled back and were level on 15 minutes - excellent through ball from Conor found Luke Williams who slotted home from 10 yards.
Wistaston regained the lead on 21 minutes with a freak goal - Blakemore again found space, this time on the right wing, and swung a cross over which looped over Mike Reece's head and into the top left hand corner of the goal. However Tigers levelled just before the break with Pendergast latching on to a clearance and slotting the ball home. 2-2 half time.
Tigers made a number of changes for the second half to give everyone a game, and the fresh legs proved useful as they piled the pressure on the Wanderers goal. On 51 minutes Tigers made the breakthrough - a shot from Conor was half cleared and Pendergast let fly from 18 yards, finding the bottom corner of the net. Tigers failed to kill the game off, but excellent defensive play in the last 15 minutes kept Wanderers at bay, to provide Tigers with a deserved first win of the season. The win moved Tigers to joint 8th in the table, level on points with Crewe Shooters and ahead of both Wistaston Wanderers and WWS Wanderers in the table. Man of the Match was Simon Denney thanks to his second half clean sheet, but everyone played well and all deserve praise for their attitude and commitment.

Bad weekend!
Both our sides suffered heavy defeats this weekend - I didn't attend the U13 game but I believe Alsager Town were excellent! Rhys Potter scored his 6th goal in 3 games to continue his scoring spree - well done Rhys!
The U14 held Team Bentley to 0-0 for the fist 20 mins despite some very poor refereeing - in the end our opponents decided to try and kick us off the park and the ref let them carry on! At 0-1 we had a chance to equalise, but Craig Clark's excellent effort crept narrowly wide. 0-4 at half time. The second half saw Bentley exploit their lanky left winger to the full, however again many decisions seemed to be going against us. On the half hour Adam Pendergast was head-butted and retaliated by throwing the ball at the culprit - both players were sent off prompting a tirade of abuse from the Team Bentley 'management'. In the end, once again the result failed to illustrate the improvement in the team - Mike Reece again played well in goal, Craig Clark showed his pace up front, and Tom Pitman made an excellent debut at left wing. Final score 0-11, should have been much closer.
Onwards and upwards! Positives are :-(a) We are not bottom! and (b) We play the team who ARE bottom next week - so let's go for a win !!!! Fixture details to follow.

Rodeheath U13's 4-3 Tigers U13's
An excellent game only marred by some strange refereeing decisions! Tigers raced into a 2-0 lead following goals from Rhys Potter and a superb header from Jordan Toll. The game turned on 25 minutes when goalkeeper Edward Holmes was sent off for denying a goalscoring opportunity following a handball outside his area, when it was clear that there were covering defenders in play. Rodeheath pulled a goal back soon after - 2-1 at the break.
Rodeheath took the game to Tigers in the second half, and raced into a 3-2 lead, only for Rhys Potter to score his 5th of the season with a fine touch and finish.
The game pivoted on another refereeing decision half way through the second half. A Tigers shot was parried by a defender with what looked like his hands, however the ref let the game go on - Rodeheath cleared the ball long and at least 2 of their strikers looked clearly offside, however play was allowed to continue and they lobbed the ball over sub goalie Joran Batho's head. Despite late pressure Tigers could not claw the deficit back, and will count themselves unlucky not to have taken something from the game. Man of the Match - Edward Sykes for an excellent defensive display.

Tigers U14 1-4 Crewe Shooters
A close game where either side could have won - the main difference between the sides being finishing.
The first half was played in a thunderstorm which made the surface very slippy. Shooters took the lead , and then went 2 up to a controversial decision from referee Mark Wood. Shooters took a shot which looked like it went wide, only for the ball to somehow finish up in the net - after some deliberation, the goal was given, despite it being very uncertain as to whether the ball had actually gone in.
Tigers had at least 5 shots on goal in the second half, and the more the game went on, the more they took control, however Shooters scored 2 breakaway goals before Tigers got a consolation following a great through ball from Mike Reece and a fine run and finish from Adam Pendergast.
The last 10 minutes saw total Tigers domination, but no further goals appeared. Man of the Match Craig Clark was excellent on the right wing, and Tigers showed again that they are improving week on week - surely a first win cannot be too far away.

Sundays fixtures
U13's aim to keep their 100% record with an away trip to Rodeheath Vikings at Milton Gardens, Alsager - 11.30am kick off. Rodeheath have had a poor start to the season with 2 defeats, so there is no reason why Tigers can't make it 2 wins out of 2!
U14's play their first winnable game of the season as they take on Crewe Shooters at Wistaston Junior School. Shooters are currently bottom of the league, having lost 0-18 to Kidsgrove and 1-11 to Crewe Terriers in their opening games. Tigers will be without their midfield dynamo Yonathan Duplessis who is away on international duty with South Africa!
Get the reports on both games here on the Tigers blog on Sunday evening.

Nantwich T U14's 13-2 Tigers U14's
Although the scoreline looks poor, Tigers put in a much improved performance against a Nantwich side who finished 3rd last year. Indeed, for the first 10 minutes, it looked like Tigers could cause an upset as they raced into a 1-0 lead thanks to good interplay between Pendergast, Du-Plessis and a fine finish from Craig Clark. Nantwich equalised with a 10th minute penalty, and from then on found their feet and went on to win the game, despite a first Tigers goal for Luke Williams half way through the first half. Man of the Match Michael Reece produced a string of fine saves, but Nantwich's pace and long balls tactics paid off as they recorded their second win of the season. Tigers can, however take heart - quote of the day from an unknown Nantwich midfielder "When did you lot get this good?!?!"
Next week sees us pitting ourselves against a Crewe Shooters side who lost 0-18 to Kidsgrove last week - here's to another improved performance and, who knows, maybe a first win!

Linesmen (or women) required !!
Each club in the SCYL has to provide a linesman (or woman) for each game. Sometimes one of the managers has to do the job, which makes it difficult to manage the team, sort out tactics etc.
Sooooo we are looking for band of willing volunteers for U13 and U14 to run the line now and again! All you need is a basic understanding of the offisde rule (and the ability to deal with irate parents/officials from the opposing team!!)
Parents/brothers/sisters/non-relatives of team members are all welcome. If we can get 2 or 3 volunteers from each team, we can set up a rota of sorts to make sure no-one has to do it every week.
Please also remember that referees courses are available via the league, and refs get paid £16 per game, so if you are looking for a new vocation, let me know! Anyone aged 14 and over can be a ref, so if anyone is interested, please let Mike now - thanks

Tigers U14 0-13 Kidsgrove Athletic U14
Kidsgrove won the league last year, scoring 170 goals in the process. On Sunday, they started their campaign with an 18-0 win over Crewe Shooters. So at least we are 5 goals better than them!
A combination of 11 new players, coupled with humid conditions and no-one knowing each others name, meant that confusion reigned during the first half, and an in-form Kidsgrove side who have been together for 5 years took full advantage to race into an 8-0 half time lead.
The second half showed much improvement - indeed Tigers failed to concede a goal for the final 25 minutes thanks to excellent defending from the whole team, and some good saves from Mike Reece. If we can build on this second half improvement in training on Friday, and get some consistent in who is playing where, the season is sure to get better.

U13 game on Wednesday postponed
The U13 game v Mow Cop scheduled for Wednesday has been postponed by Mow Cop as they have no-one available to run the side - disadvantage of a 6pm kick off methinks !! U13's next game will be v Nantwich Town on Sunday at 11.30am @ The Barony.
U14 update
Don't have all the scores from Sunday for the U14's yet, but ominously, Kidsgrove beat Crewe Shooters 18-0 !!!!! Looks like we could be in for a tough game later - match report to follow !

Madeley White Star U13 2-3 Real Crewe Tigers U13
Well, we always seem to do well first game of the season, and today was no exception. Tigers U13 faced a Madeley side who had finished 2nd bottom of the PJYL league last year, and had switched over to the SCYL in search of an easier time of it. Ah well...
JB won the toss and decided to kick uphill in the first half, against the gradient and the sun. Madeley had a lot of the early pressure and made the advantage of the hill pay as they moved into a 2-0 lead after 20 minutes. A breakaway after 32 mins saw Rhys Potter break clear of the defence, and lift a sublime left footed chip over the head of the despairing keeper. 1-2 HT.
The 2nd half saw Tigers kicking downhill, and after 10 mins Potter again beat the defence to slot home his second goal of the game. This led to Madeley becoming increasingly frustrated, and there was a lengthy stoppage on the 20 minute mark following a disagreement between Josh Lavender and the opposing blonde-streaked striker which led to both players being given a talking to by their respective managers - Josh admirably kept his cool following extreme provocation.
Tigers deservedly took the lead after 26 minutes, when again Rhys Potter used his pace to destroy the opposition defence and slot a superb finish over the keepers head. He could have had a fourth soon afterwards, but slipped as he made the final approach. Madeley became more and more desperate and were denied a goalscoring opportunity when the linesman (!) raised his flag following a through ball by their left winger. Video evidence clearly showed that his team mate had been in an offside position whilst interfering with play when the ball was played.
Despite the referee losing both his yellow and red cards, and presumably also his watch, he finally blew his whistle after 8 minutes of injury time, with Tigers holding on thanks to late goal-line clearances from Adam Scragg and Jordan Batho. A fair result in the end - Tigers posed most of the attacking threats, and will look forward to their Wednesday game with Mow Cop, hoping to make it 2 out of 2.

Friday training update
Thanks to everyone for an excellent training session tonight! I thought everyone did really well - special mention to George Gorse who was excellent in defence and Simon Denney who looked like a rather good goalie. We now have 2 U14 goalies, having had none last week, so we have competition for places at last!
By tomorrow we will have 18 players registered for the U14 team - thanks to everyone who brought their mates along!
We still have space for 5 players in the U13 squad so U13's please bring someone next week.
Have spoken to the Kidsgrove U14 manager tonight - his team is similar to last years' so it will be a tough game - one of their strikers is having trials with Liverpool! The first couple of games are probably amongst the hardest in the league - Kidsgrove and Nantwich Town - but we then have 3 easier games so don't get too down if we don't win the first couple! Just do your best...having said that we have won our opening game in the last 2 seasons so let's go for it!
Please remember that subs are £3 on a Friday and £3 on a Sunday - we are trying to book the whole of the Astro pitch for next week, but may not be allowed to - will let you know next Friday!
Good luck to the U13's on Sunday against Madeley - match report will be posted on here on Sunday afternoon.
