NEW SEASON !

Welcome back after a long hot summer (not!).

We are now down to one team, as the U15s only had 7 players returning after the summer - of these Adam P, Matt P, Craig C, Mike R and Conor have all moved to Cheshire Blades (now Bentley Blades) who will be playing their football in the Cheadle & District League - we will report on them regularly! Aaron joined Crewe Shooters and the remaining players are still 'considering their options!'.

Our U14s team will play in the SCYL Division 2, along with the following teams :-

BARONY PARK
BETLEY RANGERS
MADELEY WHITESTAR
MOW COP HORNETS
RODEHEATH VIKINGS
SANDBACH UNITED
SILVERDALE ATHLETIC

U14's require new manager

After 7 years, Mike will be leaving as manager following Sunday's game - this is due to the fact that Adam is also leaving the team, and work and other commitments mean that Mike will not be able to run training sessions through the summer.

We are therefore looking for a new manager! A number of parents have already expressed an interest, but if you know of any parents who may be keen to take over the team please let me know either via email, phone or on Sunday. Another option is to merge with another team if no manager can be found.

The managers position involves :-

- Running training sessions as agreed
- Ensuring enough players are available for the games and calling each player to ensure they know where and when the game is on a weekly basis
- Prior to home games, calling the opposition manager on the Wednesday before the game to ensure the time and venue is agreed and that kit clashes etc are dealt with and agreed
- Checking the league website on a Friday evening to ensure the pitch/venue has not been changed by the league, and also to ensure that a referee has been appointed by the league - if not, home team should arrange their own referee.
- Ensuring players have water available for the game
- Attendance at managers meetings (usually monthly at the Alex)
- Completion of league paperwork including match reports, player registrations, FA affiliation forms, and insurance documentation
- Ensuring all player fees, fines, team fees, insurance premiums, affiliation fees, subs, referee fees etc are received and paid out within deadlines
- Strengthening the squad as and when appropriate by adding/scouting new players

Managers should also consider taking the FA coaching badges and will be expected to agree to a CRB check prior to appointment - this will be a necessity for the 2008/9 season when the league rules are changed.

Please note it is also possible for a secretary to do the paperwork - this is up to whoever takes over.

Please contact Mike should you be interested in applying for this position.

I would like to take this opportunity to thank all players and parents for their support over the period I have been manager and hope that we have given players the opportunity to play organised football where they may not have had the chance to do so elsewhere.

Update from Mike - U14s

Someone left a message on the blog today from 'a defender/midfielder' advising me that I am a s*** manager and don't care if we win as I always give 'everyone a go'. If the individual concerned would like to discuss this further, could he give me a call rather than posting an anonymous message? Maybe he is one of the players who would be on the bench if we played our best team every game? How would he like it then???

Given the fact we only have 13 squad members, it is difficult to see how we would better leaving the supposedly weaker team members on the bench! I have consistently asked for players to invite friends/players along to strengthen the squad, but hardly anyone has done so this year. It is your team - it is up to you to encourage people to join!

There are 3 main reasons why we have not trained in the last 2 weeks:-

1 - I have not yet had all the questionnaires back from everyone, so don't know when everyone can make training - however I will now base this on the responses I have had so far and call everyone tomorrow night(Weds) to advise what we will be doing.
2 - I also run Betley U15s cricket team - this is currently taking 3 nights per week, leaving me very little time to do anything else.
3 - We have no game until next Sunday and then no game til September.

Currently we have only 4 players who are definitely staying next year, with 6 not sure, and 3 definitely leaving, so it seems unlikely we will be able to enter a team unless we get some new players for the new season.

If anyone has any constructive comments, please give me a call to discuss this further instead of posting abusive anonymous messages.

No U14 Training this week

There will be no under 14 training this week - I am still waiting for a number of questionnaires back - please call me if you haven't yet given me your answers!

From the replies received so far, it looks like we will be training at The Barony, probably Thursday nights or Saturday morning. Please let me know which of these you would prefer!

Also it looks like we may be short of players if the 'undecided' ones decide to leave! We currently have 4 staying, 2 leaving and 6 undecided.

I will update the website when I have the final replies

U14's - Comments & Training etc

Quick note - if you wish to put a comment on the blog, please leave your name - there have been 3 comments asking re training etc, but no name was left so i can't reply!

I am still waiting for a couple of questionnaires, and I will leave a further blog once they have all been received concerning training day/dates/times and also the situation re players for next year etc.

At present it looks like we will be training at The Barony on either Thu or Fri evening, but I will confirm this later. So far we have 4 players confirmed for next year, 4 undecided, 1 leaving and 4 yet to reply.

No U14's training for the next 2 weeks

Please note training for the U14's will not take place on Friday March 30th or Friday April 6th due to Mike going to Tranmere and Good Friday! Training will resume on Friday April 13th (eek!)

There are no games on either Sunday April 1st or 8th.

U14's Cup Semi - Sunday March 25th - Directions !

Just in case you get lost, I thought I would post some directions on here as well as the letter that was given out at training.

Head towards Sandbach on the new dual carriageway. Turn right at the roundabout at the end, and then right at the traffic lights. Take the first main turning on the right (Hassall Road - apparently this is opposite a chip shop!). The ground is on the right hand side about 50-100yards along this road - apparently up a dirt track of some kind!

If you get lost, call Mike on 07968 069652

Stat-Attack! Both teams show improvement

Whilst looking at the league website, I thought I would compare how our teams have done to see if we were improving - and we are in most areas!

Last year, the U13's (U12's as they were then) played 20 games, won 1 drew 1 and lost 18. They scored 18 goals and conceded 137!! This year has not only seen more wins already, but also more goals and vastly less conceded, played 14, won 2 drew 0 lost 12, scored 19 and conceded just 66!! We also recorded our best win for 2 years with a 5-2 success over Sandbach.

The U14's have improved in many areas (except goals conceded!!). Last year we played 24, won 2 lost 22, scored 26 and conceded 179 - this year played 17 won 3 lost 14, scored 27 conceded 190!!! We also recorded our best win for 3 years with a 7-3 win over Shooters.

U13's cruelly denied by late strike

U13's played their Cup Semi v Rodeheath, and came agonisingly close to making it to the Final. The scores were level after normal time with a Luke Williamson goal cancelling out an earlier Rodeheath lead. Despite hitting the bar and having shots cleared off the line, Tigers had their hopes dashed 3 minutes from the end of extra time when a speculative shot from Rodeheath caught the wind and sailed just under thebar. Bad luck Tigers !

U14's record best win for 3 years

U14's recorded their best win for 3 years with an excellent 7-3 success over Crewe Shooters, avenging Shooters 4-1 win earlier in the season.

Tigers lost the toss and had to battle against a gale force wind in the first half but did superbly well and were 4-0 up within 20 minutes. By half time Shooters had dragged 2 goals back but Tigers made the wind count in the second half to score a further 3 goals with one reply for Shooters.

Excellent performances all round with special mentions to Simon Denney again for some excellent saves, Adam P for pinpoint passing and a hat-trick and Conor who cost his Dad some money by also scoring a hat-trick! Liam scored the other goal to give Tigers an excellent win !

Hopefully we can keep the form going into our Cup Semi next week.

Special Report - Tigers U13 5-2 Sandbach U13

..from our roving reporter, Steve!

Goal 1 , Rhys was put through with excellent ball by George Papa , Rhys rounded goalie and slotted in, middle of pitch was quagmire but we fought our way through and George put another excellent ball through to Rhys who again cooly slotted it past the keeper.

Sandbach came back at us and lobbed a high one over Eddie in to the roof of net to make it 2-1 . We were awarded a free kick 20 yds out on left side of box with Gary and Steve telling Luke to take it , we told BIG BEN to stand in front of sandbach goalie , and Luke just hit it into top right corner Unstoppable .

Then Sandbach missed a succession of chances , only for Rhys to break and be pulled down for a penalty. After much discussion Jordon Batho took penalty but Sandbach goalie dived to his left to save . Still 3-1 .

Second half Luke took a quality corner in to the danger area it hit the sandbach defender and went over the line although it was already going in so Luke was credited with goal no 2. Then after lots of missed chances Josh brought the ball down and from a tight angle hammered home from left side of goal, 5-1 .

Sandbach eventually scored after pin ball in our area we never cleared it and they had a shot from edge of area to make it 5-2 . Excellent hard working performance but Eddie goalie was given the golden boot for M-O-M after a string of good saves.

the whole team fought for each other and played really well.

Wistaston W 3-4 Crewe Tigers

U14's came back from 0-2 down to record a 4-3 win, a second victory this year over Wistaston W, having previously won 3-2 earlier in the season.

Superb performances from all, with goals coming from Adam P, Matt P, Craig and a superb 35 yard winner from Elliott C, who was given man of the match for his goal and excellent defensive performance. Mike R was also a rock in defence in the second half, keeping Wistastons attack at bay when it looked like they may come back into the game.

The result lifts Tigers off the bottom of the league :-

8 WWS Wanderers U14 14
9 Real Crewe Tigers 6
10 Wistaston Wanderers U14 4
11 Crewe Shooters U14 3
